The views of the Maroon Bells from the Summit are worth the hike!
The aptly named Summit Trail tops out at the top of Elk Camp Peak and boasts one of the most incredible views around. From the top of this hike, you’ll be treated to 360-degree views the highlight of which looking down the valley at the Maroon Bells.
The Summit Trail starts at the top of the Elk Camp gondola. To get to the trailhead you can either take a scenic gondola ride* or hike from Base Village up the Vista Trail. The trail starts in an evergreen and aspen forest and you’ll have a chance to explore the changing natural environment as you make your way up towards tree line.
After taking in the views, you have the option of downloading via the Elk Camp Chair Lift** (then transferring to the gondola) or, you can always simply turn around the take the trail back down.

Free parking is available at the Base Village parking garage.
